There are several incidents happening around in my daily life… some funny, some tragic, some interesting while some are really pathetic… as I told you, I am here to share and also to preserve some of those fond memories, you should also know how my normal day goes in order to understand the stories coming ahead…
I know I have already wasted a para explaining the reason for this post… lets have a look at my daily life…
My college is at Goregaon (w) [VIVEK COLLEGE OF COMMERCE] & I stay at Kalyan (e). For people who are not aware of the places in Mumbai, let me try to make it simple, it is 65 kms away from my place... Yes… I know what you are thinking about … but, its true… now you may call me mad, nuts or whatever!!! That really doesn’t make any difference… I have been traveling all the way to college and back from last 3 yrs and none of my friends, my parents in fact even me myself couldn’t understand the reason behind my love for my college!!!! And for those who don’t know abt the railway structure in Mumbai… there are actually 3 different lines… 1st one is western (where my college is situated), 2nd is central (where I am resided at present), and 3rd one is harbor line ( new Bombay)… there is a great place called Dadar junction which falls in between all these three lines…I need to change at least 2 trains to reach Goregaon and at times 3 as fast trains do not halt at Goregaon, I prefer to get down at Andheri and board a slow train… but, anyway I can’t avoid DADAR…
Dadar station as it falls in the centre of all the possible lines is one of the busiest and most crowded railway stations in the world… its amazing to see thousands of people running (running literally means running) towards all the directions for their livelihood… when I see standard chartered spending so much on Mumbai marathon I wonder if real marathoners can ever spare some time for that!!!
It is difficult for a person who has never seen Mumbai to actually realize the intensity of the crowd and the aggression of life in Mumbai… the reason why I had to explain about the places and distance above is because many of my stories are some how connected with all those places… local trains have almost become an in separable part of my life too as that of majority of Mumbaikars… I travel through the veins of Mumbai and that too on a daily basis… earlier I found it quite annoying, tiring and also very difficult to travel on a daily basis… then gradually I started enjoying my journey with a new experience each day…
I never attend my lectures conducted at the college as I find it too boring to afford… my lectures are scheduled at 7.15 and that’s the time when I leave home…it takes around 1.45 hrs for me to reach college…most of the times I leave by 9.30-10… actually its good to travel before 8 am… as the crowd is comparatively less and the atmosphere is quite fresh in the morning which helps you travel without much of hardship… by the time its 9 the trains are flooded with people and their bags… students with their school bags, professionals with their laptops and workers with their lunch bags…
Now, I really don’t know if I should call it “The spirit of Mumbai” or the curse of Mumbai!!! But, no matter whether you love it or hate it,, you certainly cannot avoid traveling in local trains if you need to survive in this city…
I plug my headphones in to my ears the moment I step out of my house and this helps me keep my temper calm and away from all those mess and help me to escape from many abusive statements in the morning itself in locals… I carry a huge variety of music on my phone from classical to rock… from trans to jazz and you will find almost all sorts of music on my phone… being a music freak this is the time when I actually listen to music… I travel so that I can listen to more of music… I know it may sound a bit crazy… but, that’s how it actually is…
Most of the times, by the time I reach college lectures are all over and I hang around with my friends in the suburbs of malad, kandivli and Borivali etc. many a times I prefer to catch a bus from Borivali as it is convenient to take a nap for a while and within 1 hr you can reach Thane...and Thane is just 20 mins away from my place. Also, I have a huge attachment towards these places as I have spent most of my school life i.e for about 10 years of my life over here…

every day, nearly 2 millions of people travel through these trains...recklessly just for their livelihood...trains have become the prerogative factor of a common man....that's why it is said "trains run through the veins of mumbaikars..."
