WHAT TO WRITE WHAT NOT TO WRITE

I have been thinking about writing something on my blog and that is when the title came in “WHAT TO WRITE”

I have been an active micro-blogger since Orkut days and till now I have this habit of posting everything that I find interesting in my life to facebook or Twitter. I have been sharing my views on Women, Love, Politics and what not.  But because of this micro-blogging culture I now have nothing left to write on my blog as I must have already expressed the same in Facebook or Twitter. The problem is I always felt I have a lot to say! :)

I have never been a good writer. I still don't know the meaning and even spelling of many commonly used words. I do make a lot of grammatical errors and typos. Then why should I write?

The reason I write is because I know there are people who love to read. I know that there are people who love to share and discuss. People who love to share their experiences as well as their opinions.

Now comes the question what to write! Before I tell you what I am getting into, I would like to share two stories over here. The first one is of Amar Mayekar, who was my Voice and Accent trainer while working for Convergys as a Customer Care Executive (On Phone) for an Australian Telecom Co.

He was a good looking chap, fair, crisp and had an amazing command over English language. During one of his sessions he told us (the batch) how he developed his passion for this language and how he was keen on learning new words and using it on a daily basis. He said how he later realized that people were impressed with his command over his language but they could hardly understand anything that is being conveyed. Here, his knowledge and command over his language becomes useless.

A good communicator is the one who loves to keep it simple. The intention behind any communication can be two. First to convey what you want to say, in the way you want the listener or your audience to take it and the other one is to show how much you know about the language. The second one hardly helps you communicate; it just helps you create an impression that’s it.

The second story is of a friend who is a Twitter addict and whenever I login to Twitter, all that I see is his tweets. Once I had posted a beautiful article by Rajdeep Sardesai on Robert Vadra on facebook and this Twitter guy soon commented on the link abusing Rajdeep of having written such a long article which is difficult for him to read (as he has limited his point of views to 140 characters) and is way too time consuming, in fact waste of time according to him.

This again proves that elaborated versions are becoming less popular with the “Breakfast” culture and twitter logics. People have very less time to read what you want to say or in fact even listen to you! Even though I still love the classical, elaborated way of writing and

Here comes the concept of KISS. Yes, to Keep It Short and Simple.  Short, Crisp and most importantly SIMPLE usage of words is what make a good communicator. I have been fortunate enough not to have learned a lot of English that way.

Coming on to the second part of my title, what not to write, I have always shared my personal thoughts and point of views on social networking sites and whatever I am writing now is hence totally based on the responses and reviews that I have received, good , bad, ugly.

There is this pretty girl on my facebook who apparently happens to be my college mate as well. My habit of playing with the words had once embarrassed me in front of this girl. I had this habit of posting my first thought, without giving it a second thought about its consequences!

She posted once “Good news for girls who hate skinny Jeans! Levi’s has come up with wide-legs once again! Its back in Fashion! Yeppeee!”

When I read this, without giving a second thought I commented “Wide-legs? I love Legs Wide!  :P ”

And I didn’t realize it was cheap till she removed that comment and I had to apologize her having posted such a shabby comment.

The second instance was of this guy again on my facebook profile, an aspiring actor, model who has a lot of friends, he is pretty good looking and he puts in a lot of efforts to create his facebook persona a flamboyant one! He posts about parties and other happenings in the city along with his portfolio and amazing photographs. I used to wonder the way he created friends in Media and the way he was propagating himself and I always appreciated the way he utilized Social media to promote himself.

He used to get a lot of response to his pictures and posts that he make. One fine day he posted something and it was full of spelling errors and grammatical mistakes which gave him a lot of sarcastic comments, and I could see him losing on his hard earned impression in minutes. This also reminded me of the “cool-dude” guy from Chappa-Kurishu (a Malayalam film)

The best way to start learning to keep it simple according to me is to start using Twitter. Earlier I used to post lengthy posts on facebook and while trying to use twitter, it was quite difficult to compress my expressions to 140 characters. It was also difficult to understand why to use twitter when you have more spacious and colorful facebook on the other hand.  Later I realized both are different. Twitter is crisp, clear and rubbish-free as compared to facebook. There are no unwanted sharing, disturbing photographs and lengthy posts. Just read it and get over it and when you want to write something big, you always have an option of creating a blog.

I am not a language expert or a social media expert and I am not here to become an expert but to express. But all I can assure you on whatever I write is its genuineness. I write straight from my heart. You like it I am happy you don’t I am still happy. The intention is to express what I want to say and the way I want it to be understood  :)
